Getting Started in Dance Aerobics

Dance Aerobics is a healthy way to get started in exercise and for many people is a lot of fun. You don't need to be an expert dancer to start doing dance aerobics, though you'll likely after a few weeks and months feel pretty comfortable dancing not just as a means to get in shape but for fun as well at parties and social gatherings.

If you're interested in doing dance aerobics, here are some tips to help you get started:

1. Consider a Dance Aerobics Class: Dance aerobics classes are often available at health and fitness centers in your area. The fees are often relatively low, and can give you great insight on how to do dance aerobics, as well as give you the opportunity to meet and connect with others looking to get in shape from dance aerobics. Dance aerobics classes are often taught at different levels of experience, such as beginner, intermediate, and advanced. If you are very new to dance aerobics, you may want to start with a beginner level class so you do not feel too discouraged and can learn with other beginners.

Dance aerobics classes are usually 30-45 minutes in length and may be once or twice a week, depending on the class structure and program availability. The class is led by a dance aerobics instructor who will teach you how to warm up, do various dance aerobics moves, and learn how to cool down after a workout as well.

2. Consider Home Videos: There are many dance aerobics videos available to rent or purchase to help you learn dance aerobics. If you have cable television, you may even be able to access free dance aerobic shows on fitness channels or even "On Demand" if you have digital cable. This can be a great way to learn dance aerobics at home and can also be done in conjunction with dance aerobics classes. Sometimes it helps before trying to follow along with a television show or video to first watch it one or two times to get an idea of what the different dance moves are. Then when you actually do it, you will have some familiarity with the video and be able to participate with it better.

3. Dance to Your Own Beat: After you've watched a few dance aerobic videos or taken a class to learn dance aerobics, you may feel comfortable enough creating your own dance routine. All you will need for this is a music play list of your favorite workout songs which you can play on a CD player or your MP3 player while you workout. This will give you more control of your dance aerobics routine, but it helps to first at least watch videos or a class to get a good understanding on what exercises will be the most beneficial for you.

Dance aerobics can be a lot of fun to get started in. You'll also see many health benefits from dance aerobics such as improved heart and lung functioning, fitness endurance, and overall better mood and energy levels.
