Fastest Way to Aerobic Fitness

Aerobic exercise is a great way to get your heart pumping and have fun while you are working out. The trick to getting fit fast is enjoying your activity. Once you find an activity you enjoy, you'll have your heart rate and respiration pumping, increasing your heart health and burning calories. Thirty minutes a day can have you well on your way to any fitness goal, whether it be weight loss or just an overall general improvement in your fitness.

Fast Ways to Become Aerobically Fit

Step 1

Choose an activity or multiple activities. Running, brisk walking, swimming, bicycling and yoga are all invigorating and exciting ways to get your heart pumping. If you've never really engaged in such activities before, try a few out. Finding an activity you like is all trial and error. If you don't like something, you aren't obligated to stick with it. Check out the second section for suggestions.

Step 2

Set a workout schedule. Thirty minutes of aerobic activity three to four times a week is your best bet to achieving a goal. If you are a morning person, get up early. If evening is more your thing, set a time after work. Getting into a routine is an excellent means of sticking to it.

Step 3

Challenge yourself. If you've chosen brisk walking as your exercise of choice and find yourself progressing to the point at which walking isn't a challenge, try jogging, then eventually progress to running if you are up for it. Seeing progression means you are succeeding.

Activities to Try

Step 1

Run or walk. Both are excellent means of aerobic activity. Thirty minutes of distance running or walking is a great means of keeping your heart rate up, boosting metabolism and burning calories.

Step 2

Get on a bicycle. Cycling will get your heart pumping without adding extra stress to your joints. If you don't have easy access to safe, outside areas, a stationary bike will work. Cycle at a pace you are comfortable with and aim for 30 minutes of continuous cycling during each workout session. Start in a low gear and work your way up.

Step 3

Test your flexibility and core strength. Yoga is, believe it or not, a form of aerobic activity, as well as a great way to get away from your regular aerobic routine. Find a class that is high intensity; this is your best bet for worthwhile aerobic exercise.

Step 4

Cool off and get fit. Swimming is aerobic, low impact and a great way of keeping cool. Try a variety of strokes, such as breaststroke, backstroke, sidestroke and butterfly. Many people say swimming is a very tiring exercise, so start slow and work at a rate with which you are comfortable.
