Fitness tips from your favourite celebs

Celebrity diet and fitness has been a topic of interest in health and fitness circles for a long time. Who better to learn from than celebs that lead glamorous lives with bodies and faces that all of us aspire to have?

While some celebrities starve and work their bodies to a point of fatigue, we bring you 7 sensible and super healthy celebrities with tips that you can incorporate into your own life for a fitter and healthier you.

Rahul Bose – Ex-rugby player and long distance runner, there can be no better celebrity to give you his take on fitness. Rahul Bose says that fitness has to serve a higher purpose than just looking good. When you want to get your body in shape for a particular goal such as playing a sport well, or running a long race, fitness will come organically and you won't need to think about it too much. Rahul Bose plays a sport regularly to keep in shape and keep him in shape it sure does.

Kareena Kapoor – Kareena Kapoor's diet is flexible and realistic. In the busy life of a celebrity who travels a lot it is very important to have a flexible diet. For ex. she can't be expected to go running around looking for brown rice in Ladakh and her diet is modified to suit the cuisine of that region. Her meals are normal meals rich in nutrients, and she doesn't count calories as much as she counts nutrients. Kareena eats more when active and less when not. Some must do tips – eat whole fruit instead of juice, eat full fat food instead of low-fat substitutes, eat fresh food and avoid packaged food.

Shahid Kapoor – The 6-pack man – Shahid Kapoor swears by isolated body part workouts. If you are interested in that six pack then be prepared to work one body part a day. Shahid works out on the treadmill for at least 15 minutes every day and works out one or two body parts. While functional training will give you a lean look, if you have time on your hands work out isolated body parts to get a body like Shahid's. He also watches his diet of course, eating healthy, avoiding junk food and fried stuff and generally watching what he eats.

Lara Dutta – 'My fitness secret is that there are no shortcuts', says Lara Dutta. While the rest of the industry stands resolutely behind statements like 'I eat all I want' and ' No I don't diet', here is one actor who is not ashamed to admit that she works very hard at looking the way she does and is not interested in ever being a size zero. She avoids junk food, and works out every single day. Yoga, bodyweight exercises, pilates based movements and a blend of plyometrics and speed, and agility training form the basis for her sculpted body.

Imran Khan – One of the few celebrities who has managed to keep looking very natural, Imran Khan loves cooking for himself, carries home cooked food when out for shoots and is a self confessed healthy eater. He stays away from sweets and colas. A must-have in his diet is chicken and proteins as he says it helps him lose weight quickly.

Bipasha Basu - Bipasha started out as a model and is now one of the most sought after actresses with an enviable figure. She has always been a fitness freak and loves working out. Her fitness mantra is that in order to look good you need to be mentally fit too and love yourself. A fitness DVD based on her personal workout was launched in 2010 and is called 'Love yourself.' It promises to give the user a chiseled svelte figure like the actor herself has, if followed for 25 minutes everyday. Her fitness regimen includes yoga and body weight exercises.

Shilpa Shetty - She is undoubtedly the fitness icon in the industry with her toned torso and perfect waistline. Shilpa does not believe in working out to look good but to feel good! She believes in doing a mix of yoga and weight training for her perfect figure. She eats healthy and here is her fitness tip for us - 'follow a healthy diet. If you don't have time to workout just walk everywhere- use the stairs, walk to the station.'
