Fitness Dance Programs


 

Fitness dance programs are an aerobics option for people who do not like to run, bike or use cardio machines. Dance aerobics is cardiovascular exercise performed to music using various traditional dance steps or choreographed routines combining traditional, Latin or modern dance steps with cardio moves. Dance programs typically run around one hour and have programs for different levels of fitness.

Zumba

Zumba is a Latin dance program that hit the scene in 2001. A fitness instructor from Colombia, Beto Perez, created a dance program using salsa and meringue music he called the Zumba Fitness Party. Zumba dance is a high-intensity dance program that gets your heart rate up creating a calorie-burning workout. Six Zumba dance programs are available that cover different levels of fitness, age range and types of workout. Zumba, Zumba Gold and Aqua Zumba focus on a total dance program that is cardio conditioning. Zumbatomic is designed for kids aged 4 to 12. Zumba Toning and Zumba in the Circuit combine high-energy dance with some form of resistance training.

Jazzercise

Jazzercise first started in 1969, founded by Judi Sheppard Missett. Jazzercise is a dance program designed around Jazz-fusion music and is a cardiovascular workout. Jazzercise combines Jazz dance, Pilates, yoga, resistance training and kickboxing movements. The program improves cardiovascular health, strength, endurance and flexibility. It is a 60-minute total body workout with music programs than include jazz, country, rock, blues and hip-hop. The workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and people of all fitness levels can participate. A junior Jazzercise program is also available for children ages six to 11 and 12 to18. The junior program consists of 20 minutes of exercise, a 20-minute game segment focusing on nutrition and exercise and a 20-minute dance segment.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop dance programs are cardiovascular and help build balance, muscle and coordination. Hip Hop dance is broken down into combinations and counts. The combinations are then put together into a choreographed dance program. The program starts with a warm up and then moves into the dance program. There is a learning curve with Hip Hop dance programs, but once you get the moves down, it is an effective cardiovascular workout with many different dance combinations and steps. Hip Hop programs are taught at health clubs, dance schools and dance camps. Beginner, intermediate and advanced level dance fitness programs are available.

Brazil Butt Lift

The Brazil Butt Lift dance program is a targeted program for your behind. It is a dance training program designed to shape up your butt, reduce your hips and lift the glutes muscles. The program combines Brazilian dance, cardio and lower body sculpting moves to burn fat and build muscle. The Brazil Butt Lift video is available on DVD and is led by trainer Leandro Carvalho. The workout starts with 20 minutes of training and jumps into 35 minutes of dance cardio.
