P90x Workout Tips



The P90X workout is a 12-week program designed by personal trainer Tony Horton. The workout is meant to performed at home. It features a variety of workout videos, each lasting about an hour and targeting specific muscle groups. It also comes with a nutritional plan to support body fat loss and muscle building. It's an intense workout program, but there are some tips that will help you complete it successfully.

Pacing

The P90X workout videos move rather quickly. Tony Horton often moves from one exercise immediately to the next. The workouts are designed to challenge even the most fit individual, so don't be afraid to pace yourself by hitting the pause button so that you can finish each set at the speed that works for you. Also, if you're unable to complete repetitions for the assigned amount of time, allow yourself to focus on just completing as many as you personally can during the time period of that set.



Familiarize Yourself Ahead of Time

Consider watching some of the workout videos and familiarizing yourself with the workout charts prior to actually beginning training with the P90X program. This will help better prepare you for what you're going to be required to do. There will likely be a number of exercises that you're not familiar with. Try the exercises while watching the videos.

Equipment

Have all of the necessary equipment prior to beginning each workout video. Some workouts only require a mat and a pullup bar, but in the shoulders and arms workout, for example, you may need a variety of dumbbells. Having this equipment set up and ready to go prior to beginning will allow you to keep pace with Horton as he makes his way through the exercises.

Utilize the workout charts provided by the P90X program. They're designed so that you can monitor your progress and make notes so that subsequent workouts can be more effective. For example, you can write down if a weight used during a set was too light or too heavy, and thus make adjustments when it's time to do that same workout again.

Respect Nutrition

The P90X workout sessions are intense; consistent participation will result in an increase in muscle mass and the burning of a significant number of calories. If your goal is to lose body fat, however, it's important to understand the impact that your nutritional habits will have on your success. Consuming too many calories everyday will cancel out the calories you burned during the workout. Follow the P90X nutritional plan as closely as possible. Plan your meals at the beginning of the week and make foods ahead of time if possible to increase your chances of success.
