You won't find the usual suspects on the MoveMD joint supplement ingredient label. It's missing such stand-bys as glucosamine, chondroitin, and omega-3 fatty acids. Instead, you get the likes of collagen (in four different types), hyaluronic acid, and Boswellia. There's research to support the inclusion of all of them, but a couple of MoveMD's five ingredients are underdosed, negating their effectiveness.

There's enough potency in MoveMD to give you some joint relief. However, adding a couple of the aforementioned better-known ingredients would have made it much better. As a result, MoveMD is better than a placebo but not as good as more ingredient-packed, better-dosed competitors like FlexAgain, Performance Lab Pro, and Physio Flex Pro.

Overall Verdict: PASS (but better options available)

Pros
  • +Research supported ingredients
  • +Well-priced in the market

Cons

MoveMD Ingredients

Here's an overview of the five MoveMD ingredients, along with a look at the appropriateness of each one's dosage:

1) Boswellia Serrata - 100mg

Boswellia serrata is extracted from the resin of the Boswellia tree, found in North Africa, the Middle East, and India. It includes bioactive substances known as boswellic acids, with the two main ones being beta-boswellic acid and acetyl-beta-boswellic acid. These substances are thought to have anti-inflammatory and analgesic (pain-relieving) qualities that could benefit joint health.

Joint discomfort and ailments like osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are frequently correlated with chronic inflammation. Inhibiting pro-inflammatory enzymes may help reduce and relieve joint pain and inflammation, according to research on the boswellic acids found in Boswellia [1]. Joint discomfort sufferers may experience pain alleviation due to the anti-inflammatory properties of Boswellia.

Boswellia may help protect cartilage, which helps relieve joint pain and deterioration. The bioavailability and quality of the Boswellia extract are key factors in a dosage's efficacy. If the Boswellia serrata supplement comprised a concentrated and standardized extract with a high concentration of boswellic acids, 100 mg would be suitable for joint health. Unfortunately, we aren't told what the boswellic acid concentration in MoveMD is.

2) Astaxanthin Algae Extract - 2mg

The carotenoid pigment astaxanthin comes from algae, salmon, krill, and other seafood. It's a potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, which may help relieve disorders like osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis [2]. It may also protect cartilage to support and cushion the joints.

The purity and bioavailability of the Astaxanthin extract used impacts a dosage's effectiveness. While some products provide 2 mg of highly concentrated astaxanthin, others may need greater doses due to lower concentrations. Again, we don't know the concentration used in this product.

3) Types I, V, and X Collagen - 100mg

Collagen is a protein that acts as the body's basic building block, giving different tissues like skin, bones, tendons, and cartilage structural support. Type I, Type V, and Type X collagen are three forms of collagen particularly interesting to joint health.

Collagen Type I is the most prevalent type in the body, primarily located in the skin, bones, tendons, and ligaments. It's essential for giving connective tissues strength and flexibility. Type I collagen can support the tensile strength and structural integrity of tendons and ligaments. In this way, it might lessen the chance of injury and support joint stability.

Type V collagen is a minor component of several tissues, including skin, hair, and cell membranes. Despite having less research on it than Type I collagen, Type V collagen may contribute to the structural integrity of joint tissues. However, the particular ways Type V collagen contributes to joint health are unclear.

Growing cartilage and bones have growth plates mainly made of type X collagen. It converts cartilage into bone during skeletal growth, a process known as endochondral ossification. Unlike Type I collagen, Type X collagen is not frequently linked to joint health. Instead of supporting healthy joints, bone formation is its primary function.

Most studies on collagen and joint health have been done on animals. More human trials are needed to determine their benefits for humans.

Clinical trials frequently employ greater dosages of type I collagen, which is the most important for joint health and typically ranges from 1,000 to 10,000 mg (1 to 10 grams) daily. So, the combined dosage of 100 mg is very low.

4) Type II Collagen - 280mg

Type II collagen is the primary type in cartilage. It is essential for maintaining joint health and cushioning and preserving the structural integrity of joints. Hyaline cartilage, which covers the surfaces of articulating joints, is particularly high in type II collagen, providing its tensile strength and suppleness.

Supplementation with Type II collagen has been shown to help alleviate knee pain in people with osteoarthritis [3].

Type II collagen is also vital in the creation of synovial fluid, the primary joint lubricant. The 280 mg dosage fits within the generally accepted range.

5) Hyaluronic Acid - 25mg

Joint comfort and mobility are improved by reducing friction between joint surfaces during movement. Synovial fluid, which lubricates the joints, is primarily composed of hyaluronic acid.

Hyaluronic acid lubricates joints while also acting as a shock absorber in the form of joint cushioning. It protects the joint's structural elements, helping in shock absorption and equally dispersing mechanical stresses. It may also have anti-inflammatory effects [4].

One thing to note is that some research suggests hyaluronic acid may be far less effective when taken orally as opposed to topically [5].

Clinical studies use a dosage range of 90-120 mg daily, significantly more than the 25 mg used in Move MD.

MoveMD Alternatives

Among the plethora of joint health supplements that saturate the market are a handful of stand-out products. Here are three of our favorites:

1) Physio Flex Pro

Physio Flex Pro is a natural joint health supplement designed to alleviate joint pain and improve overall well-being.

Manufactured by SRS Nutra, it claims to have been developed in collaboration with physiotherapists, orthopedic specialists, and physical therapists. The product's objectives include eliminating joint pain, repairing and protecting cartilage, and preventing joint lubrication and injury. A one-month supply of Physio Flex Pro is priced at $58 and comes with a 60-day money-back guarantee.

Physio Flex Pro contains eight well-recognized joint health ingredients, but it lacks collagen and hyaluronic acid. The ingredients, which include glucosamine HCL, selenium, chondroitin sulfate, and bromelain, are certified as high-quality, organic, and free from additives and fillers.

The manufacturer, SRS Nutra, specializes exclusively in producing and selling Physio Flex Pro, focusing on producing a top-quality joint supplement.

2) FlexAgain

FlexAgain stands out among joint supplements due to its extensive list of ingredients, surpassing many competitors in this regard. While lacking hyaluronic acid, the ingredient list effectively covers a comprehensive range of joint health support elements.

Here's an overview of the key ingredients found in FlexAgain:

  • Omega-3 (1100mg): Omega-3 fatty acids, specifically EPA and DHA, possess potent antioxidant properties and promote joint lubrication, aiding in the creation of synovial fluid. This enhanced lubrication contributes to joint flexibility and overall mobility, maintaining healthy joints while preserving joint cartilage.

  • Curcumin Extract (500mg): Curcumin, the active compound in turmeric, has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant qualities that promote joint health.

  • Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) (50 mg): MSM is another potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant that promotes joint and cartilage health.

  • Ginger extract, included in Eurovita Extract 77, 250 mg: Ginger includes bioactive substances with anti-inflammatory characteristics that help to reduce pain and ease joints.

Some ingredients, like curcumin and chondroitin, are present in higher concentrations than in Physio Flex Pro. In addition, FlexAgain introduces omega-3 fatty acids, which are well known for their lubricating and joint-preserving effects. Although FlexAgain is a new product with few internet reviews, the feedback so far is overwhelmingly favorable, with consumers mentioning increased joint mobility and pain alleviation.

With a cost of $69.47 for a one-month supply of FlexAgain, or $2.32 per serving, it is priced significantly over the industry average. But the lengthy list of solid ingredients, which includes omega-3 fatty acids, somewhat offsets the higher price.

Pros
  • +11 research supported ingredients
  • +Contains omega-3 fatty acids
  • +90-day money-back guarantee
Cons
  • -Quite expensive

  • Boswellia Serrata (100 mg): Performance Lab incorporates AprèsFlex® Boswellia serrata extract, renowned for its powerful anti-inflammatory attributes, facilitating relief from joint pain and stiffness.

  • Glucosamine Sulfate (500 mg): Sourced from corn rather than shellfish, making it a suitable alternative for individuals with shellfish allergies. Glucosamine is integral to maintaining cartilage integrity and promoting joint health.

  • Phytodroitin (100 mg): A plant-derived compound that functions similarly to chondroitin, aiding in cartilage repair and enhancing joint shock-absorption capabilities.

MoveMD FAQs

Here's a round-up of the questions we're most frequently asked about MoveMD:

What are the side effects of MoveMD?

MoveMD is considered side-effect-free, containing natural, safe ingredients when taken according to the recommended dosage. Some people may experience minor side effects, usually due to the boswellia content. This may include stomach upset and nausea.

Is there a joint supplement that really works?

Yes, several joint supplements really work for pain relief. However, no supplement is a magic pill that will totally alleviate joint pain. We recommend Flex Again as a product that contains a number of research-supported ingredients in the dosages that are proven to have an effect.

How long does Move MD take to work?

According to the official MoveMD website, you should start to experience beneficial effects after five days. As the ingredients build up in the body, joint relief will increase until they peak after about three months.

What is the best over-the-counter vitamin for joints?

Based on our experience analyzing, using, and reviewing a wide range of joint health supplements, we consider Flex Again the best over-the-counter vitamin for joint relief. We also rank Physio Flex Pro and Performance Lab Flex very highly. Check our full review of Physio Flex Pro to learn more.

Summary of MoveMD Reviews

MoveMD is a solid, though not an outstanding, joint health supplement.

On the upside, it contains five ingredients with a good deal of research supporting their inclusion in a joint supplement. A couple of them, though, are underdosed, and some recognized joint supplement ingredients are noticeably missing, such as glucosamine HCL and Omega-3 fatty acids.

As a result, we consider MoveMD to be a middle-of-the-road joint supplement. You'll get more bang for your buck from a product with a more complete, better-dosed ingredient profile, like Flex Again or Performance Lab Flex.
